What is Wireless IEEE 802.15.4?

IEEE 802.15.4: Offering lower cost and more flexibility

Trailblazer™ Wireless locating solution is configured on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. This is an open, internationally recognised standard developed by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

This standard enables wireless transmission of locating data from locating tags (worn by people or attached to equipment or assets) via routers to your computer. It operates in indoor networks, and to a limited extent in outdoor networks.

The advantages  of IEEE 802.15.4 over Wi-Fi (802.11) locating solutions are:

  • It is easy to use and can be installed very quickly
  • It offers a more flexible reception range
  • It is lower in cost to set up and run
  • It has low power requirements and runs completely on batteries
  • It is low maintenance
  • The network in which it operates can expand without limit
  • It is a self-healing network that will automatically seek out alternate routes for dispatching data if there is a block in its path, or a node is not working.
  • It runs independently to your existing network, meaning there is no disruption to your existing operations.

Our Trailblazer™ Wireless locating solution incorporates all of the advantages and ingenuity of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. It is useful for many types of organisations including schools, hospitals, aged care facilities, airports, distribution centres and warehouses, fire and ambulance stations, manufacturing, mining, museums, art galleries and more.
